Student Profile - Sasskia Kounota
"I did A’Levels in Theatre Studies, PE and Psychology at school but I always had a passion for hair so after completing my A’Levels I took a NVQ Level 2 in hairdressing and planned to come to University College Birmingham to take a NVQ Level 3. After coming to an Open Day though and speaking to a lecturer I realised I could do what I loved at Higher Education level so I applied through UCAS and got a place on the Salon Business Management Foundation Degree.
I like the practical side of the course; the theory side, business and marketing, are harder than I thought they would be but as long as I attend all the lectures I can keep up.
I put in a lot of work but do get a lot of rewards, the lecturers are great – their office doors are always open and they have been able to sort out any problems that I’ve had.
I would like to try and get a place on the BBC Design Training Programme when I’ve completed my studies here at UCB and my goal is to work in media hair and make-up production."
