Student Profile - Ka Fu Choy

From school in Hong Kong, I went on to complete a HND in Hospitality and Catering Management, then worked as a chef for three years at an Italian restaurant on Hong Kong Island.

I came to the UK in 2004 and enrolled onto the NVQ Level 3 programme in Food Preparation and Cooking, before going on to the BA (Hons) Culinary Arts.

I was very proud to win the Gordon Ramsay College Scholarship competition in August 2005. My prizes included £2,000, a trip to Switzerland and work placements in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and a Spanish vineyard.

The competition was a brilliant experience. Competing alongside the top chefs was great and I learned a lot from the judges' feedback. It was a lot of nerve-wracking pressure but I would definitely do it all again.

After graduating, I went on to work in London for top chefs Tom Aitkens and Gordon Ramsay, before returning to work in Hong Kong.
