Student Profile - Jolene Neil
I began my studies at University College Birmingham in 2004 when I managed to get a place on the PGCE in Early Years. Within a few days of starting the course I realised how supportive the staff were. That year was very hard work, but I was qualified to teach and was first of all offered supply work when I returned to South Wales. I was then offered a permanent position as a nursery teacher in my local primary school where I had attended as a child.
When I heard UCB were starting a MA Early Years Education I jumped at the chance of studying there again, despite having to travel from South Wales every week. I worked at an encouraging and supportive school and they let me travel during my PPA time in the afternoon.
I was pleased when I passed this higher degree, especially as it opened other doors for me. Due to having my Masters qualification I am now teaching in a primary school in the eternal city of Rome. What an experience!
