Jameela Ismaeel and Susina Maiden
Jameela:
“I live in Leicester and came to UCB at Level 2 after studying level 1 at another college, I found UCB had lots of options to continue my studies.”
Susina:
“I came for an Open Day after seeing the college at the Bakery Show at the NEC, before I started I did the junior Bakers academy sponsored by Warburtons and then did a taster day before joining. “
Jameela:
“The course is really good, with lots of variety in the subject offered, both of us love working with confectionery; éclairs, chocolate, pastries, gateaux etc. We have also had the opportunity to learn to do sugar flowers and cake decoration which is great. I entered a competition recently with a Chinese style wedding cake I had decorated and was thrilled to receive a merit in my first competition!
We’re both planning to stay on to do Level 3 and thinking about going on to do the BA (Hons) Culinary Arts Management after that.”
Susina:
“I’d like to go on to work at a Craft Bakery, eventually starting my own ‘Scratch Bakery’ , my placement was in a craft bakery and the training I’d received on the course meant I fitted in really easily.
The equipment used on the course is really good and we get access to fantastic ingredients and the opportunity for lots of experimentation.”
