Student Profile - Hristo Yanev
MA Tourism Business Administration
I completed my undergraduate studies in Hotel Management at the International University College in Albena, Bulgaria.
It was whilst studying there I first heard about University College Birmingham and explored the opportunities for post-graduate studies here. I had been to the UK before visiting London and Blackpool during a Ballroom dancing competition but had heard good things about Birmingham from Bulgarian friends who were studying here.
My initial impressions of Birmingham were very positive, the city was not as industrial as I thought it was going to be, there are lots of cultural opportunities such as theatre, dance, music and much more to offer. The city is very multi-cultural and there are actually lots of Bulgarian's living here.
I've been living at The Maltings halls of residence which is very nice accommodation, clean and in a perfect location for both UCB and Birmingham's night life.
One of the social highlights of my time here has been the opportunity to set up a Dance Society with support from the Guild of Students, we now have over 70 people learning salsa and ballroom dancing and hopefully that society will continue after I leave.
I plan to return to Bulgaria once I have completed my studies, the MA has strengthened my belief that I can go on to set up my own business in the tourism industry.
