Student Profile - Holly Mills

BSc Sports Therapy

Highest Achievement in First Year Undergraduate Study

To be declared the winner of the UCB HE Academic Prize for Highest Achievement in First Year Undergraduate Study was an “absolute honour and very exciting” said Holly Mills.

Holly is studying for a BSc Sports Therapy and, after a year of hard work, gained an impressive 75% overall for her coursework.

At 11, Holly started training as a professional dancer, transferring to a professional college with a scholarship at the age of 16.

She started to teach dance and did that for a few years, along the way developing an interest in physiotherapy techniques to help dancers with injuries – especially useful as she sustained a few injuries herself whilst dancing!

A lack of dancing jobs led Holly to discover the potential to train as a sports therapist and after researching different Universities was delighted to be offered a place at UCB.

At first Holly thought she might struggle to adapt her interests in dance to the sports therapy techniques but found this not to be the case and has enjoyed learning new practical skills which will help dancers rehabilitate after injury.

Holly still teaches dance part time in her home town of Stratford-upon-Avon. She is hoping to do a work experience placement at Birmingham Royal Ballet during her second year and in the future would like to work as a freelance sports therapist, possibly for a dance company.
