Student Profile - Helen Evans
For her industrial placement year Helen worked at Simpsons in Birmingham where she also works part time both in the kitchen and at their cookery school “I love working in the cookery school as it combines front of house skills with the cooking.”
This year as well she has been won a number of awards including a Silver award overall at the Wessex Salon Culinaire part of Worldskills UK, held in Bournemouth where she did a live cookery demonstration and static display for an audience and judges.
“It was good fun, I was nervous cooking in front of so many people, there were hundreds of competitors there – I’ve never done a competition of that scale before, there was a big audience as well as judges watching”
Helen also this year has an internship in Paris during the summer, “I did a placement at Christmas at the Connaught Hotel and the head chef there has her own restaurant in Paris so it was using this contact that I secured the placement.”
