Student Profile - Ben Hare

Hospitality Supervision Level 3

I’ve always wanted to be in the hospitality industry and started at UCB straight after school. After only 3 weeks on my course I got my first real job at a fine dining restaurant, I worked there for 2 1/2 years working my way up from a commis to a supervisory level.

During my time at UCB there has been lots of opportunities to experience and serve at prestigious events such as RAC Epsom and RAC Pall Mall; I have also worked at events such as 'The Hospitality Show' and 'BBC Good Food Show' which are all invaluable experiences.

The lecturers are extremely nice and push you for the best of your ability to shine out and they are really supportive and are there to help when you have a problem with assignments or personal issues.

I have found some difficulties completing my academic assignments but have managed to overcome these with the help and guidance of the student support service and lecturers.

In the short term I'm gaining more experience from within industry and through competitions that I am participating in, the biggest of which is representing the UK at Worldskills 2011.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my study at UCB and have learnt excellent customer care whilst meeting different people each day working in the restaurants.

The skills I now have can be taken into the industry, my future dream is to open up my own restaurant.
