Student Profile - Ausra Srebaliute
MA Tourism Destination Management
After completing the first year of hospitality degree in Lithuania, I was delighted to join the second year of the BA (Hons) Tourism at UCB to complete my degree.
I liked the atmosphere in college and the lecturers are really friendly and approachable, a real ‘open door’ policy to give you help when you need it.
For me the marketing module was a real pleasure, especially the international aspects. In our group assignment we chose to look at how Tesco markets itself in Japan. We learnt how to think globally and act locally. I also thought the strategic management classes were fantastic, teaching me lots about how to look at the wider implications of running a business.
When I joined the Masters course, it was very different. On the BA you learn the practicalities of business and on the MA you learn to think more globally.
Our residential live project trip was to Calabria in Italy. What an experience! We visited wine and olive oil factories, a national park and had specially organised conference just for us featuring six speakers from the Italian tourism industry.
Whilst I was at UCB I worked as a student ambassador and had a part time job as a receptionist at the Jurys Inn hotel.
My dream job would be to return to Lithuania and work in tourism development. I have based my Masters dissertation around the tourism issues there so shall include copies of it when I apply for jobs.
