Childhood Studies BA (Hons)
I graduated from UCB with a first class degree in BA Childhood Studies with Practitioner Status. My background is in health and social care and I am dedicated to working with young people of all ages.
I really enjoyed learning about the academic theory relating to the industry and UCB helped me take every opportunity to put my knowledge into practice and develop the managerial skills required when working with children.
During my course I took a placement at Surestart Lime Tree Children’s Centre, working with children up to nine months in their day nursery. I also got the chance to gain experience of working with older children, supporting those with special needs and working with industry officials to provide support to local families.
I now work in a support service funded by the Birmingham City Council, mentoring vulnerable children within the local community whilst I study an MA in Youth and Community Development at UCB.
Because UCB is a college as well as a University, it means you can plan and tailor your ideal career and grow within the institution. The University’s city centre location and connections with industry gives students the opportunity to gain plenty of practical experience throughout their studies.
