Bakery and Confectionery Technology FdSc
I looked at a number of different universities for this course but the moment I stepped into UCB’s bakeries I felt like I belonged. My favourite part of the degree so far has been the Artisan Bread module. Before I started university I really felt as though that kind of baking was a weakness of mine, so I wasn’t looking forward to it at all. But I had an amazing tutor who made it exciting – and that took me from being scared of baking bread to being ready to take on a professional bakery.
I’ve been a two-time finalist for the Baking Industry Awards, medallist at the 2017 Salon Culinaire and winner of Callebaut’s ‘Make it Special’ competition – things I never would have thought possible before. So my advice to anyone thinking of taking this course is to take the plunge and do it, because you never know what might happen.
