Tourism Destination Management MA
UCB has a great range of postgraduate tourism courses and, after looking at the variety of modules on offer, I found MA Tourism Destination Management to be a perfect fit for me. Also, Birmingham is a great city to study in!
One of my favourite parts was learning about the history of tourism, but nothing beats the course’s opportunities for residential visits. My class spent a week in Lanzarote as part of a live project. We attended the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and presented our ideas for pop-up tourism concept to students and tourism professionals. It was a great experience.
UCB is a fantastic learning environment. After taking a four year break from study after my undergraduate degree, I was concerned it would be tough to get back into thinking and writing academically, but the university lecturers were very supportive and I achieved great results.
I now work as an International Travel Consultant for Flight Centre in London. It’s a huge global company and the career opportunities they offer are amazing. The tourism industry is competitive, so having a postgraduate qualification really helped me stand out from other applicants.
My advice to new students would be to get involved with local tourism initiatives during your study – you’ll make great contacts, have a lot of fun and it looks great on your CV.
