Northern Ireland / Scotland
Please see below for some basic information about funding for Northern Irish students studying at UCB. Northern Irish students can access more detailed information about Student Finance and the application process by visiting www.studentfinanceni.co.uk.
Support with my tuition fees
Northern Irish full-time undergraduate students who meet the residency criteria can opt to take out a tuition fee loan. You can take out a loan to cover the full amount of your tuition fees. It is a loan and is therefore repayable once you have left the course and are earning more than £21,000. The tuition fee loan is not income assessed, which means that your entitlement for this doesn’t depend on your household income.
If you have had previous higher education study then you may not be eligible for a tuition fee loan.
Once your tuition fee loan is approved, it is paid directly to UCB in three instalments when you have enrolled on your degree programme.
Support with my living costs
Maintenance support is available to all Northern Irish full-time students studying their first undergraduate degree. It is designed to help students with general living costs whilst they are studying. Any Maintenance Loan or Maintenance Grant that you are awarded is paid directly into your bank account at the start of every term.
Students can receive a Maintenance Loan up to a maximum of £4,840. The amount you are entitled to is dependent on your household income. The Maintenance Loan is repayable once you have left your course and are earning more than £21,000.
Students may also be entitled to a Maintenance Grant. Again, the amount you are entitled to is dependent on your household income. If your household income is less than £41,065, you will be entitled to at a proportion of the Maintenance Grant. If your household income is less than £19,203, you will be entitled to the full maintenance grant of £3,475. If you are entitled to any Maintenance Grant, the amount of Maintenance Loan you receive will be slightly reduced.
