After you Have Applied

The admissions team aims to respond to applications within 10 working days. However, it may take longer if the team requires additional information. Standard offers are normally based on academic requirements and receipt of a suitable letter of support (see below: Letter of Support).

Each application is considered individually and careful consideration is given to all the information on your form, particularly your personal statement, letter of support and the qualifications you have acquired or are taking.

Letter of support

To process your application and consider you for a place, we need a letter of support from your employer. If you are involved in a placement rather than full-time employment, the letter should be from the person responsible for you there.

UCB looks for key areas in a letter of support. It must give an insight into your character and give an impression of how well you work. This is to give the course manager an overview of how well you are likely to respond to the course of study and to assignments you will have to complete.

We also need to know your employer has given permission for you to study the course. Some of our courses are conducted in the afternoon and early evening and you will need to be able to leave work for half a day once a week.

Receiving offers

The admissions team will email your official offer letter to you. If your application is successful, there are two types of offer you can receive from UCB:

  • Conditional - this means we have offered you a place but with conditions attached. Conditional offers are usually made to applicants who are still in education. Once you have met these conditions and provided evidence, your offer will become Unconditional.
  • Unconditional - this means we have offered you a definite place and all academic requirements have been met and we are happy to accept you.

When we contact you with your offer, we will also email you further information about University College Birmingham and invite you to come and visit us.

Replying to offers

Once you have received an Unconditional offer, the next step is to confirm you would like to take up the offer of a part-time place at UCB. This can be done by clicking below:

Receiving exam results

If a condition of an applicant’s offer is to achieve a qualification, the admissions team will require applicants to send/email documentation of their course completion to b.furlong@ucb.ac.uk.
