Hospitality with Events BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma
UCB is a specialist institution that enabled me to study exactly what I wanted, focusing on the areas that I had a real interest in. My time there inspired me to progress in the tourism industry, make lots of friends and learn from the lecturers’ experience.
I also did two industrial placements while studying, one of which was a specific housekeeping placement for five days, after which I was offered a part-time position at a hotel within their restaurant team. The second placement was on the front desk within the same hotel, which was a valuable experience.
Since leaving UCB I have had some amazing opportunities. I had the privilege of working at Le Manior in Oxford, which is owned by celebrity chef Raymond Blanc. I also spent four months in the beautiful Cape Cod in Massachusetts at Wequassett Resort & Golf Club, with extensive training towards their Forbes Five Star. I learned so much and grew as an individual and professional. I now work at The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida working in the UK Pavillion at Epcot as part of their food and beverage team.
I have always loved customer interaction and getting to know about the places people are from. The guest interactions I get working at Disney are incredible, i get to talk to people about their home towns and learn about their cultures swell as sharing my own with them.
If I could give students on this course one piece of advice, it would be to make sure they make the most of every opportunity that comes your way – it might not come your way again – and have lots of fun doing what you enjoy.
