Bakery Level 2 Certificate & Level 3 Diploma
I chose to study at UCB because I really enjoyed the open day. I originally wanted to do the chef course but when I looked around the bakery department, it helped me to make my final decision. I would recommend the university because the lecturers are incredibly supportive. I’ve discovered new skills and have a massive passion for baking.
The best part of the bakery course is that I am constantly progressing, developing and discovering new skills. There are so many opportunities to network with people outside of college as well, for example ABST (The Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees). I have currently been on two placements. In level 1 I went to a cake decorating shop and in level 2 I went to a craft bakery where I produced both bread and confectionery products. I plan on progressing to level 3 and eventually do the bakery degree. Once I have experienced the industry I would then like to teach bakery sharing my skills and passion with others.
My advice to students considering taking the course would be to always believe in yourself because people will believe in you, see your passion and determination. The one piece of career advice I would give is to get as much as experience as you can. Network with people because that’s when you’re offered more opportunities to progress in your profession.
