Lecturers held up as shining examples at University teaching awards

June 2017

Seven UCB lecturers have been recognised for going above and beyond the call of duty for their students in the University’s annual Spotlight on Great Teaching Awards.

More than 300 students nominated teachers they believed went the extra mile to inspire, engage and encourage, with the final line-up decided by a cross-university panel.

UCB’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Alex Lofthouse, said: “These awards recognise sheer dedication to learning excellence, motivating staff to shine and students to reflect on what they truly appreciate in a good educator.

“I’d like to congratulate all of this year’s outstanding winners, as well as everyone who was nominated. The comments made by students about all of our staff’s teaching were absolutely fantastic.”

This year’s stars of the show are:

  • Affi Agbodo – Lecturer in Business and Enterprise Management
  • Kathryn Bell – Lecturer in Aviation & Airport Management
  • Wayne Gillam – Lecturer in Bakery
  • Jayne Hackett – Lecturer in Childhood Studies
  • Craig Pinkney – Lecturer in Health & Social Care
  • Stephen Walker – Lecturer in Sports Therapy
  • Alison Williams – Lecturer in Childhood Studies

The winners will receive their awards at this year’s UCB HE Graduation Ceremony or the FE Awards, depending on what they teach.

Both lecturers and academic staff could be nominated for an award, with final winners awarded a cash prize.

If you were nominated, but just missed out on a winning place, it could be you next year!
