UCB wins endorsement on the new Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers

April 2017

The top quality vocational training and assessment offered by University College Birmingham has led to its successful inclusion on the Government’s new Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers.

The Department for Education (DfE) and the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) have introduced the register (RoATP) to ensure institutions pass a rigorous assessment process.

The RoATP is designed to give employers peace of mind that the training their apprentices receive at University College Birmingham and other approved providers meets the requirements of their businesses.  Providers need to demonstrate that their courses fit the specific needs of apprentices and fulfil their expectations.

The register has been hailed as a milestone in making apprenticeships more rigorous, better structured and firmly aligned to the aspirations and needs of employers and employees.

UCB, which is widely recognised for its superb industry links, now runs more than 20 full-time apprenticeships with more in development covering all of its academic schools: Sport and Creative Studies; Food; Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management; Education, Health and Community; and Business.

Gail Tipper, the University’s Head of Apprenticeships, said: “UCB is at the forefront of delivering highly regarded apprenticeships, offering opportunities for employers to recruit new talent, retrain and upskill existing employees. We now have a tremendous opportunity to work in partnership with more employers on their apprenticeship programmes.

“We are delighted we have been successful in our application to join the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers, allowing us to work with Apprenticeship Levy Paying employers from May 2017. Levied employers will be able to choose providers such as UCB from the new register, giving them and their apprentices access to high quality, flexible and responsive training experiences.”
