Keeley rises to the challenge at bakery awards

February 2017

There was double delight for one trainee baker after her mouth-watering breads won plaudits at two competitions in one week.

Seventeen-year-old Keeley Skov, from Tamworth, was awarded gold and best in class at the Culinary Championships at Warwickshire and Hinckley College for her display featuring four different types of rolls and a loaf.

She went on to win bronze and best in class for her bread display at the Great Hospitality Show’s prestigious Salon Culinaire at the NEC.

Keeley, a former Wilnecote High School pupil, studied Level 2 Bakery at UCB before becoming a Level 3 Bakery apprentice. She will progress onto UCB’s Bakery and Patisserie degree in September.

She said: “It’s the first time I have entered any competitions so I do feel proud of myself; it’s a nice feeling.”

Lecturer Ross Jones said: “Keeley has put in a lot of hard work and I am glad it has paid off. All her final products were produced to an excellent standard and she should be proud of her awards.”
