BA Sports Management students visit Poland

January 2014

Recently, BA Sports Management students enjoyed an educational visit to Kraków and Zakopane in Poland for a few days to observe the development of sport following the country’s entrance into the European Union in 2004.

The trip formed a part of the ‘Development and Innovation’ module completed in their final year, where students gain unique insights into how major international sporting venues operate, and how new sports facilities are developed. The students visited the Academy of Physical Education in Krakow where they met and spoke to tennis player Agnieszka Radwańska, who is a student at the academy and currently ranked world number five by the Women’s Tennis Association. The students also enjoyed a lecture on the development of Sport in Poland, and also received a tour of the institution’s facilities.

During the remainder of the visit the students were shown an Olympic Kayak training venue, and travelled south to see the ski resort of Zakopane and its ski-jump facilities as it prepares to be a candidate city for the 2022 winter Olympics with Krakow. The trip finished with a visit to a water park with thermal outdoor pools. The visit proved to be very beneficial for the students’ progress, as well as giving them a chance to sample the Polish culture.
