Employability Week 2011

Curriculum Vitae TagsMonday 14 November marks the start of Employability Week at UCB.

Each year the College's Careers and Employability team organise a week of activities to help students improve their chances of getting a job when they start their career.

Events include a recruitment fair, CV and Interview Skills workshops and a session on how to start your own business.

A series of short one and two day courses is also on offer covering areas such as creative web design, influencing and negotiating skills and food hygiene.

Former contestant of BBC's The Apprentice, Joy Stefanicki, will be delivering a presentation on the value of social networking and companies looking for recruits to work at the Olympics will be running a special information session.

Volunteering Day is also popular, with organisations offering opportunities for students to make a difference in their local community whilst at college and consider volunteering options as part of their career.

Head of Careers, Hazel Foggin says: Now more than ever, it is important to make sure your CV will stand out in a crowd.  Employers are interested in people who can offer more than a qualification. Those who can show they have made the  effort to acquire additional skills will always do well.  This could be through part time employment, voluntary work or extra courses.  All higher education students, especially those in their second and final years are encouraged to take part in the activities as much as they can.
