Top Chef Marco Pierre White Visits UCB

small0138Aspiring chefs and food service students at University College Birmingham felt the pressure as they cooked in front of culinary genius Marco Pierre White recently.

The Hell’s Kitchen maestro, who was the youngest chef to receive three Michelin stars, spent an afternoon at UCB with students in the kitchen, offering advice and guidance.

He was in the city to inspect the site of his new restaurant Marco’s at The Cube, which is due to open in December.

Marco Pierre White said, “It is incredibly inspiring to see young people learning the art of cooking with the love and passion that I had when I was their age.  I was very impressed by the students’ talent, their enthusiasm was extremely encouraging.”

John Penn, Assistant Dean at College of Food, University College Birmingham said, “Marco Pierre White is a highly respected and greatly admired chef amongst the students so it was a pleasure to welcome him to the college.  He said how lucky the students were to be in such impressive training kitchens and particularly noted their enthusiasm and passion for their craft.  He encouraged them to work hard and stay focussed in their future careers and we hope some will go on to work in Marco’s new restaurant in the future”.

Ashley Lawrence, chef student at UCB (pictured on the right) said, “I can’t believe I’ve met Marco, it was so exciting that he was here.  He watched us all cooking and said we should be creative with food and always aim to be the best at what we can do”.
