1,500 students celebrate their hard work

One thousand five hundred students graduated at Symphony Hall on Friday 23 September at the University College Birmingham (UCB) Annual Awards Congregations.

Three ceremonies saw one thousand higher education students and five hundred further education students celebrate their achievements, collecting awards for a range of qualifications from degrees, foundation degrees and postgraduate awards to NVQ’s and National Diplomas.

Eleven Memorial Awards were given to students who have either made a significant contribution to the life of the University College or have overcome challenging times to complete their studies.  They will each receive £200 and a certificate.

New for this year, citations were read out about twenty seven students who have won individual higher or further education awards for their achievements and contributions to University College Birmingham.

An honorary fellowship was awarded to Sian Piercy, Deputy Headteacher of Mayfield School, Birmingham in recognition of her valued services to the College.

Professor Ray Linforth, Principal, University College Birmingham said:  “The Awards Congregations are always a special and happy occasion for our students and their families and friends.   Graduates celebrate their achievements and can look forward to moving on with a valued qualification to enhance their future career prospects”.
