FoodFestA celebration of exceptional cuisine from 27 countries

From the 14th to 23rd October Birmingham Food Fest celebrated the exceptional culinary offering within Birmingham, with a new 10 day food festival.

Birmingham Food Fest is all about celebrating Birmingham’s diverse restaurant scene, authentic global cuisine and the exceptional chefs around the city.

University College Birmingham participated in Birmingham Food Fest in a number of ways:

  • Food and Wine Tasting Evening 
  • Artisan Bread Making
  • Fun with Cupcakes
  • Sustainable Fish Cookery Demonstration and Tasting

    Food and Wine Tasting Evening

     Wednesday 19th October 2011 saw 40 diners enjoying a fabulous selection of dishes and accompanying tasters of wine at this special event.

    Rob Smith led the wine tasting session, guiding everyone on wine tasting techniques and how to identify different flavours.

    John Penn talked through the dishes that were being busily prepared in the kitchens.

    The evening was hailed a great success and is one the college hopes to hold again in the future. 

     

    Artisan Bread, Like it? Now make it!

    Saturday 15th and Saturday 22nd October saw artisan, hand-crafted breads being made from scratch, including Olive Focaccia with Rosemary and Thyme, Almond Buns and Walnut and Sultana Rolls.

     Using our top class facilities, the group were under the expert tuition of Bakery Lecturer, Ross Jones, who has 20 years of experience in both craft and commercial bakeries.

    Providing all the top quality ingredients the group took home a selection of delicious baked products.

     

    Fun with Cup Cakes (for children aged 7-14)

    Saturday 15th and Saturday 22nd October saw children learning how to bake and decorate cupcakes using a variety of toppings in our top class facilities with sessions led by experienced Bakery Lecturers.
