Unifest at UCB is a Success Once Again
Over forty Year 10, 11 and 12 students from schools across the Midlands have, for the third year running, taken part in UniFest at University College Birmingham.
UniFest is the name for University Summer Schools in the West Midlands and it is an opportunity for students to obtain a taste of University life and gain an understanding of a subject they may wish to study in the future. The students spend 3 days as ‘UCB Students’ living at The Maltings Halls of Residence.
This years UniFest saw sessions kicking off with Salon & Spa Management where students gained practical experience in hand massage, manicures, hair cutting, blow drying and product design in our Specialised Hair & Beauty Training Salons. Students also had the opportunity to try out our Spa Area, taking advantage of our Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and dry flotation tank.
Session two focused on skills for careers in the hospitality industry with practical sessions in the culinary arts, skills for front of house and behind the scenes. Students were also briefed on aspects of restaurant design and then asked to design their own restaurant which they presented in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch.
All participants played an active part in making both UniFest a tremendous success. On behalf of all the staff we would like to thank the participants for all their hard work and energy! We had a great time, we hope you did too!
