Students Cruise to Victory

DSCN6521-smallA group of final year BTEC Travel and Tourism students have spent the last few months putting together marketing strategies for cruise companies which culminated with presentations at Birmingham’s Malmaison Hotel.

The six groups each took a different cruise line looking at their unique selling points, target audiences and how best to market them.

Malmaison Manager, Stephen Woodhouse and UCB Lecturers, Yvonne Garner and Julie Hambleton led the presentation judging team which also included Malmasion Business Manager Zara Goodwin and Head Chef Brian Neath.

After much deliberation the first prize of a night in a suite with dinner went to Megan Sadler and Melissa Payne, runners up were Kenya McNight and Dannii Burton who are looking forward to a spa day with treatments each and third place went to Lydia Waterfield and Vicky Williams who will be treated to lunch in the Malmaison restaurant.

Yvonne Garner said:  "All the finalists performed to a very high standard whilst under the pressure of presenting in front of senior management at Malmaison.  Stephen Woodhouse, General Manager,  came to the college earlier in the year to present an overview of the hospitality industry, in particular the sales and marketing practices implemented by the Malmaison group.  The year group were invited to tours of the Malmaison hotels in Birmingham and Oxford which they thoroughly enjoyed and following this Mr Woodhouse kindly offered the prizes".
