Marketing and Events Management Students Raise Thousands for Charity
Three groups of second year BA (Hons) Events Management and Marketing with Events Management students are celebrating their success after staging fundraising events as part of their course.
The charity events were a Vintage Fashion Show, Spotlight Talent Show and Bingo Blitz, each supporting a charity of their choice.
Vintage Fashion Show
A group of nine students planned a ‘Vintage Fashion Show’ which was held at Après Bar and saw a number of family and friends arrive to support their hard work. The event raised a grand total of £862.00 and all proceeds will go to Cancer Research UK.
“It has been a great experience and I feel totally overwhelmed. It is such an achievement; I am thrilled at having raised such a great amount for Cancer Research UK” said student Holly Raybould.
Joanna Bates, Events Management lecturer and group mentor said “It is a great concept and they have worked very hard. It is a great turn out of family and friends showing their support; it is a fantastic event”.
Spotlight Talent Show
Held at O’Neill’s in Birmingham, the Spotlight Talent Show was organised by seven students as part of the Degree’s ‘Live Event’ module. The Talent show welcomed seven acts, including dancers, singers and musicians.
60 tickets were sold and raised over £641 for Tourism Concern.
“I have been waiting for this since last year. It has been good fun and is so rewarding seeing people having a good time and smiling. Our hard work paid of! I have learnt so much from this experience and it is great to give something back to society” said student Maggie Gyurova.
Bingo Blitz
A holiday for four in Majorca was the star prize at the Bingo Blitz event organised by Events Management students at Cadbury World.
The fun packed evening raised an impressive £2275 for Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity, Build a Home for the Brave. Over 150 friends and family attended enjoying games led by a professional Gala bingo caller.
The event was hosted by popular BRMB breakfast DJ’s, Foxy and Giuliano and magician Christian Fletcher dazzled guests with tricks at their tables.
Guests were also treated to a surprise performance from opera singer, Pippa Langhorne and her dog Buddy who appeared in the semi finals on the recent Britain’s Got Talent show.
“We are really pleased that the students decided to work with our charity and all their fundraising will go towards the project ‘Build a Home for the Brave’” said Mike Hammond CEO of the Queen Elizabeth Charity.
