Hairdressing and Beauty Student Achieves Gold at UK Skills
Level 2 Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy student, Katie Hatchard is celebrating her Gold win in the Intermediate category of the UK Skills Regional Awards 2011.
Louise Gould, a Beauty Therapy lecturer, recognised Katie’s talent, and selected her to enter the competition after she received the highest marks during the second round of the UCB internal competition in April. “Katie displayed potential right from the start, her professionalism and technical skills were very impressive” said Louise.
After vigorous training and working closely with Louise Gould and Debbie Thompson, Beauty Therapy lecturer, Katie remained focused and confident about the competition, “I was really excited; it is a fantastic opportunity”. The competition saw Katie perform a range of treatments; a facial, leg wax, manicure and day make up. She ultimately triumphed as the Gold winner, competing against 17 other students in the regional final.
“I was so happy when they called my name as the Gold winner. I am very proud of my achievements. It has increased my motivation and knowing that I can do it has made me more confident as a therapist” said Katie.
Louise Gould says “Hearing your students name being awarded 1st place at a competition and seeing the look on their face is the most fulfilling reward of all”.
As the Gold winner of the UK Skills, Katie will be put forward with a chance to compete in the final of the UK Skills National Awards, which will take place in June. Whilst at the UK Skills, Katie was also ‘talent spotted’ for a possible place at the try outs for the World Skills in Germany next year. “I am very enthusiastic and determined to carry on with future competitions – it is a very exciting time for me” said Katie.
