Hairdressing Students win Gold at UK Skills

1642-smallNVQ Level 2 Hairdressing student Paulina Ptasnik and NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing student Noriko Nagase are celebrating their Gold wins at the UK Skills Regional Awards 2011.

The students joined the competition class in October and have been working closely with Hairdressing lecturers, Janet Dancer and Pia Dimmer, in preparation for the competition.

“The students have spent a lot of their own time practising and training for the competition; they have each worked exceptionally hard” said Pia.

The competition in Manchester saw the students demonstrating their hairdressing skills for male and female styles. Paulina, competing in the Intermediate heat performed a commercial gent’s colour, cut and finish, and a progressive ladies colour, cut and finish. Whilst Noriko, competing in the advanced heat completed a progressive gent’s colour, cut and finish and a commercial ladies colour and wedding or prom up do.

“I felt very confident doing the hair styles. I was very happy and excited to be participating. Since moving from Japan last year I have learnt so much during my experience at UCB and am so pleased to be given the opportunity to take part in competitions” said Noriko.

“I was really excited about the competition. It has been a fantastic experience and studying at UCB has really helped me pursue my dream as a hairdresser. Winning gold at the competition looks great on my CV and shows that I am developing the skills to succeed in the hairdressing industry” said Paulina.

As the gold winners of the Intermediate and Advanced heats, Paulina and Noriko will be put forward with a chance to compete in the UK Skills Finals, which will take place in June. “We are very proud of what the students have achieved – it is fantastic” said Janet.

We’ll follow the student’s progress as they continue their training for upcoming competitions
