BTEC Student Zoe is a British Champion

ZoeLewisZoe Lewis, from Water Orton, Birmingham is 17 and in her final year of BTEC Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness).

As well as being a full time student Zoe is also ranked the UK’s number 3 woman in Free-Ski, and won a gold for the ‘Half Pipe’ and silver for ‘Big Air’ in her age group at the British Championships in Laax in Switzerland earlier this year, despite only learning to ski three and half years ago at The Snowdome in Tamworth prior to a school skiing trip.

Freestyle skiing is an acrobatic form of technical and aerial skiing and sees participants showing their skills on jumps and the half-pipe. Despite not having a high profile at the moment, free-skiing is gaining popularity and 2014 will see it featuring on the programme at the Winter Olympics for the first time.

Zoe told us her mum and dad are very supportive of her, although Zoe did admit that her mum sometimes gets a bit nervous when she’s on the slopes!

Zoe has her clothing sponsored by Bamboorider an eco-friendly ski wear company and has won most of the kit she needs whilst competing.  As well as skiing Zoe also coaches a junior class at the Snowdome in Tamworth and plans to travel to New Zealand and the US to coach before starting Higher Education.

We’ll be following Zoe’s career with interest!
