Students Stretch Themselves on Army Weekend

student-armyA team of nine UCB students recently took part in 'Exercise University Stretch' which is Birmingham University Officer Training Corp's contribution to the Army in Society (AiS) Strategy, run on behalf of Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Organised through the Careers and Employability Centre, the weekend was a demanding one for teams from eight Universities.  It's aim, to develop teamwork and confidence and ultimately employability skills, through activities in a challenging environment.

The weekend in the Peak District saw students gain new skills and strengthen existing ones through a variety of tasks including climbing, canoeing and other physical tasks as well as orienteering and taking part in observation exercises.

Team Leader and BA (Hons) Adventure Tourism Management student, Greg Hood said:

"We all gelled as a team, some of us were on the same course and others we met for the first time doing this challenge and got to know each other really well.  We had to be aware of each others strengths and weaknesses to make sure we got the best out of each task"

The team came third overall and said they would do it every weekend if they could!
