Chef Student goes far in BBC MasterChef Competition
Chef student Peter Seville excelled in the current series of the popular BBC show, MasterChef gaining a place as a top ten finalist.
Peter, 39, was eliminated from the programme just a couple of weeks ago but says he had a brilliant time along the way and would not have changed anything.
Currently on the NVQ3 professional cookery course at college, Peter is passionate about food and wanted to test his skills at the highest level possible, especially since his plan is to open his own gastro pub later this year.
He says “ I wanted to challenge my cooking skills in unfamiliar environments. In particular, I wanted to find out whether my dreams of cooking in my own gastro pub might eventually become a reality, or whether I simply didn’t have what it takes to succeed”.
Amongst other tasks on MasterChef, as part of the finalists team Peter had to cook a hearty lunch for one hundred hungry Scotsmen at the Invercharron Highland Games, which he says was very challenging but great fun.
Cooking as a profession is a complete life change for Peter as previously he worked as a pharmacy lecturer at Aston University in Birmingham.
But as he approaches 40, Peter felt if he didn’t make the move to follow his dream now he never would and so he launched himself head on into the culinary world.
“I had a brilliant time on MasterChef” said Peter, “ Meeting top chefs and watching the other contestants is all good experience. Now that I am in college and training it is a real working environment so I can properly hone my skills and learn from the experience of the lecturers. It is all very exciting and I am looking forward to putting into practice what I am learning now when I finally open my business in August”
