EU Students get a Taste of UCB Life
University College Birmingham recently welcomed groups from Denmark and France who came to have a taste of the life of a student in Birmingham.
A group of 9 Danish hairdressing students (pictured top) gained work experience with students in the UCB salons also learning new skills working with afro hair and theatrical hair styling. It wasn’t all work though and the group visited London, went on city walks to the Jewellery Quarter and Birmingham Markets, took part in local pub quizzes and had a pizza and movie night.
The 8 students from Marseille (pictured bottom) spent their time in the kitchens producing amongst other things ‘Traditional English Fayre’, including ‘Bubble & Squeak’ ‘Toad in the Hole’ and ‘Lancashire Hot Pot’ which they cooked for the Danish group. Other activities included an English cheese presentation and tasting, a visit to a Chinese restaurant and plenty of free time to explore the city.
Both groups enjoyed finding out different methods of teaching and learning, as well as life in the UK and spent time comparing their experiences at a shared meal in UCB's Brasserie Restaurant.
University College Birmingham is hoping to send chefs and hairdressers to Denmark in 2013 and chefs and bakers to Marseille in 2012.
