Hairdressing Team welcome Danish Student
Gitte Christiansen, 24, from Denmark is coming to the end of a three week stay in Birmingham thanks to the European wide Leonardo Da Vinci Scheme. Gitte who is the final year of her hairdressing studies at EUC Syd College in Aabernraa joined the Level 3 Hairdressing students for a chance to experience life as a hairdressing student in the UK.
The Leonardo scheme has seen UCB students for the last few years visiting countries across Europe, including France, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus, to experience work and study abroad, but Gitte’s arrival marks the first time that UCB has hosted the students participating in the Leonardo Scheme. Gitte will be followed by another 10 from EUC Syd College in mid January and Bev Lord, Leonardo co-ordinator here at UCB hopes that UCB students will soon be making the trip to Denmark in the next couple of years.
Gitte who has been staying at The Maltings halls of residence told us
“I’m liking my stay in Birmingham very much, I’ve been sharing my flat with some girls from China so that has been really interesting and I’ve been doing something every night. When I’ve been in the salons some of the techniques and styles are a little different from back home in Denmark so that’s been really interesting to find out”
Gitte, pictured here with Bev Lord and Assistant Dean Harprit Thacker, also landed a 3 day placement working at top salon ‘Lisa Shepherd’ a great experience to add to the diary she’s keeping to take back to Denmark.
