Events Management Students Support Home for the Brave

uniformgroupSecond Year Events Management students, Vicky Floy, Sam Sterry, Hayley Pike, Ceri Jones, Richard Smith and Claudine Stevens chose to support the ‘Build a Home for the Brave’ project being run by The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity to provide a rehabilitation centre for service people in a ‘home from home’ environment, with their Live Events project: a 1940’s Tea Dance at The Forget-Me-Not Ex Service club in Erdington, Birmingham.

The sold-out event saw 200 guests, including regulars at the club, 1940’s affecionados and supporters of the charity spend the afternoon in the company of the Lord Mayor and Mayoress of Birmingham, listening to an eight-piece swing band playing music from the 1940's era. Catering for the event was donated by Greggs, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Jaspers Corporate Catering Ltd.

Profits from tickets sales, pre-event fundraising and the sale of 3000 raffle tickets saw an overall figure of £1065 that the group raised for the charity

Group member Vicky Floy said “It was a fantastic event, raising awareness for a good charity and gave us a great sense of satisfaction” whilst fellow student Sam Sterry commented “It was great to put theory into practice and work with the venue and suppliers”
