The BBC Trust Hears the Views of UCB Students
40 students from a variety of courses had the opportunity to give their thoughts on the BBC and its services at a recent focus group event.
UCB was chosen by the BBC Trust to help stage the engagement event which gave the opportunity for the BBC Trustees to find out what young people think of the corporation and what they would like to see provided by them in the future.
Held in the college’s Brasserie restaurant, the evening was hosted by Radio 1Xtra presenters Ace and Vis, with an opening statement by BBC Chairman, Sir Michael Lyons.
Round table discussions followed with students feeding back on what they liked, disliked and wanted to see more of and what they thought of BBC online services.
The Trustees were delighted with the response from the students and said that their views provided valuable background research for future planning.
In a thank you letter to the College, Sir Michael Lyons said: “We had a lively and rich discussion around the room, and it was heartening to hear how many of the students used BBC services to further their studies and understanding of world affairs, as well as for entertainment”.
To thank the students for getting involved, the BBC Trust invited all the students who took part to a tour of the BBC studios at the Mailbox.
Gary Wood, Vice Principal (Academic) UCB said:
“ We were delighted to help the BBC trust stage the event and thank them for involving UCB. The students said how much they had enjoyed the experience and appreciated the opportunity to share their views and thoughts. Hopefully we will run similar events in the future.”
