Students find out how to Stay on Course

DSCN5905-4UCB Further Education students recently got the opportunity to find out why students drop out of courses and how to avoid it being them when a theatre company visited with their touring production ‘Stay on Course’.

Using characters from the TV show ‘The Mighty Boosh’ Shaman Tony Harrison and ‘The Hitcher’ took students on a journey which visited issues that might cause them to drop out of their studies; including fears about heavy workloads, pressure from parents or peers, lack of money or problems with motivation.

Over 140 students attended 2 performances and took away with them the key message of the show; stay on course and gain better qualifications, continue onto Higher Education and that help is available.

Assistant Dean, Andy Burston who organised the event said “the shows from Impact Universal are entertaining and stimulating whilst giving the students support in the challenges of education but re-emphasises the longer term rewards of Further and Higher education. It is hoped that the show will return next year to deliver its key messages in what are challenging times for the student population."
