Ben is Hoping to Show his Skills to the World
Student, Ben Hare, is one step closer to representing the UK at World Skills 2011 thanks to his selection into the final round of assessments, finding himself in the final 70 who will now undertake an intense training programme before the final squad is picked in June 2011. World Skills 2011 will be held in London from 5-8 October 2011.
Ben’s journey began at Hotel Olympia earlier this year when he won a Silver for his waiting in UK Skills ‘Search for a Star’ competition and was spotted by UK Skills Training Manager, Ian Whittaker, as a candidate for the World Skills Squad. Since then Ben has found himself on a round of training and assessment days which have whittled down the original 10,000 hopefuls to just 70 representing skills in a variety of sectors, with only 2 going through in Front of House. As well as his hospitality skills Ben has impressed judges with his overall character and interaction with others.
Food Service Lecturers, Andrew Bisconti and Amy Hollier said:
“We are both very proud of Ben’s success so far. He has worked extremely hard and completed 9 months of intense training alongside studying and working at his part-time job. This has obviously paid off and he now has a wonderful opportunity to represent the UK.”
