Employability Skills High on Agenda
It’s all about improving your chances in the jobs market.
As part of Employability Week, 15th - 19th November, UCB undergraduate students were encouraged to focus on their skills and job hunting techniques.
“Now more than ever, it is important to make sure your CV will stand out in a crowd” said Hazel Foggin, UCB’s Head of Careers. “There’s more to an impressive CV than quality paper and a spell check. Yes, it is important that it looks good but content is all important. Employers are interested in people who can offer more than a qualification, who can demonstrate they have made the effort to acquire additional skills. This could be through part time employment, voluntary work or extra courses. I guarantee, you’ll be glad you thought about it now and not later.” said Hazel.
Hazel’s message to students came as a full programme of employability activities got underway at the College including workshops, a careers and recruitment fair, volunteers day, employer presentations and short courses.
In addition, a week of activities aimed at enterprise and entrepreneurship took place, especially useful for those who might be looking to start their own business when they leave college.
Hazel added: “Essentially the activities for employability week are aimed at Foundation Degree and Degree students. But don’t forget, the Careers and Employability Centre is open all year so any student can call in anytime for advice and information to help yourself improve your chances of getting a job”.
