UK Older Persons Day

UCB's Further Education Hair and Beauty students took part in a City Council led event UK Older Persons Day. Held in the College's spa, salons and beauty suites, the event was a great success with students offering reduced price cut and blow-drys, mini facials and manicures to clients over the age of 50.

We caught up with some of the students and clients during their treatments.

Mrs Judith Goddard enjoying a mini facial and a nail file and paint was in the capable hands of Shamara Thomas, a Level 3 Beauty Therapy student.  Judith Goddard is a regular at The Spa and praises the students for all their work, "The Spa offers excellent treatment in an extremely professional setting and at a very reasonable price. Coming to UCB as a client helps the students train, giving them a sense of self satisfaction. Allowing somebody to learn whilst doing these treatments gives me a great sense of worth – these are the future beauty professionals".

Pia Dimmer, Hairdressing Lecturer, said "The event was a great success and the students were all extremely friendly and professional with the clients."

Also visiting the Spa that day, but not as part of the Older Persons Day, was Mary Bishop. She is a regular customer and is always complimenting the students on their work. "It is very affordable, the best products are used and the students are very professional". Student, Kieran Salem ensured she was in good hands along with the supervision of Lecturer, Janet Dancer.

Shirley Jenkins and Coral Brown-Taylor, also supervising during the day commented on the performance of the Beauty Therapy Level 3 students (Spa route), “The students were extremely confident, their client care was very professional and the standard of treatments were excellent”.
