UCB Celebrates Students Hard Work
One thousand students took to the stage of Symphony Hall, Birmingham at the University College Birmingham (UCB) annual Awards Congregations.
Three ceremonies saw 750 higher education students and 250 further education students celebrate their achievements, collecting awards for a range of qualifications from degrees, foundation degrees and postgraduate awards to NVQ’s and National Diplomas.
Thirteen Memorial Awards were also given to students who have made a significant contribution to the life of the University College or who have overcome challenging times to complete their studies. They each received £200 and a certificate.
Celebrations for one family were extra special when Karen Kennedy graduated on the same day as her two sons, Robert and James, a unique occurrence for University College Birmingham.
In addition, three honorary fellowships, awarded to individuals in recognition of their valued services to or associations with the College, were given to Luke Tipping, Executive Chef Director at Michelin star Simpsons restaurant who regularly visits the college to mentor students and advise on the development of chef catering courses; Professor Ann-Marie Bathmaker, who has been involved with UCB since 1994 contributing her expertise in the field of education and John Bridgman, Manager of the Birmingham based Titan Partnership, who advises on working partnerships with schools and developing training contracts.
Professor Ray Linforth, Principal, University College Birmingham said: “The Awards Congregations are always a special and happy occasion for our students and their families and friends. Graduates celebrate their achievements and can look forward to moving on with a valued qualification to enhance their future career prospects”.
