Food and Consumer Management Students achieve Top Honours
2010 not only saw 16 students graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Food and Consumer Management but of those 11 were awarded a first class honours; including a married couple Alasdair and Kate Langstaff who married the summer before enrolling on the course!
Looking at the amazing success of this year’s cohort, Lecturer and Final Year Manager, Mandy Lloyd, puts it down to a number of elements including the students who are generally self-motivated and enthusiastic. Educational factors such as small teaching groups, with clear relevance to industry through placements, live projects and staff experience, together with strong pastoral support and focussed dissertation sessions from the second year. In the case of Alasdair and Kate - perhaps marital rivalry had a positive impact on their results!
Of course their story doesn’t end at graduation and looking at the next steps the group have taken - including jobs with Jamie Oliver Ltd, Kenwood and M&S supplier, Uniq Foods. Some are undertaking further study on PGCE courses and Masters including Environmental Health as well as self employment, we’re sure we’ll be reporting back on their success for years to come.
