Unifest Success at UCB

UniFest - Students are all hands on deckMove over Glastonbury, V and Bestival a new festival was launched this summer!

UniFest, the new name for the Aimhigher Summer Schools, saw 2 groups of 14-16 year olds spend 3 days and 2 nights at University College Birmingham having a complete residential university experience.

Designed to encourage students to move onto Higher Education the events each had a different theme:

The first looked at Food Product Development; using tomatoes as the theme students heard industry speakers, looked at product sourcing, development and analysis as well as marketing and selling a finished product. The finale of the day saw a Dragons Den style group activity where students presented their ideas to a panel of UCB judges and a prize was awarded to the winning team (see picture below)

The following week saw a focus on Sport and UCB's degrees in Sports Management and Sports Therapy. Students combined practical activities, including an introduction to coaching and the basics of stretching, strapping and tapping injuries, with the theory of exercise and training.

Evenings saw the attendees at The Maltings, UCB's Halls of Residence where they had a taste of undergraduate student life with movie nights, quizzes, treasure hunts and lots of playing pool whilst learning about living independently and making new friends.

A huge thank you goes out to all the students who attended UniFest and the staff at UCB who helped make the events such a success.
