FE Students Ask the Questions
A group of UCB Further Education students discussed the matters that mean the most to them recently when parliamentary candidates, local government councillors, council representatives and local Business Leaders came to University College Birmingham.
In a debate organised by Deputy FE Guild Officer, Neelam Rose, and run in the style of ‘QuestionTime’ (complete with theme music), students on Childcare and Health and Social care courses asked a series of question to the panel; which included should EMA provision be extended to all students studying a Further Education course? How can more job opportunities for young people be created? and how can young people be engaged in politics?.
The lively debate lasted for nearly two hours and the panel were definitely given a run for their money, with all participants singing the praises of the UCB students and pledging to return to speak to them again in future debates.
Whilst it might be a couple of years before these students are able to vote, Neelam said “I was delighted to see so many students showing an interest in local issues”
