UCB helps Chef Shine in Chile
University College Birmingham provided sponsorship for a competitor and a mentor to compete in the Hans Bueschkens Junior Chefs Challenge, the competition was held during the World Association of Chefs’ Societies Congress in Santiago, Chile in January.
21 year old Aaron Darnley, who completed an NVQ Level 3 at UCB in 2007 and now works at Edmunds Restaurant Birmingham, represented the UK and was the youngest chef in the competition.
Competitors received a Mystery Basket the evening before the competition and the menu that Aaron devised was:

Scallops, Oysters and Chilean Sea Bass with Asparagus and Pak Choi,

Rib Eye of Beef with Green Beans, Mushroom Duxelle and Grilled Potato Wedge

Chocolate Souffle, Fresh Raspberries and Vanilla Ice
Aaron achieved a great result and thoroughly enjoyed the experience coming 6th overall in a closely fought competition against 17 countries, with some high scores for his individual dishes.
