First Tourism PhD in Tunisia for UCB Alumnus
Samiha Chemli (pictured) who graduated from UCB in 2003 with a MA in Tourism Business Administration has become the first Tunisian to successfully complete a Doctorate in Tourism.
Following her studies in Birmingham, Samiha spent two years working in tourism, including on an UNESCO project and as a lecturer, before embarking on her doctorate studies at Manouba University in Tunis.
Through a partnership between Manouba University and University College Birmingham, Samiha was jointly supervised by staff from both institutions in her research which analysed the travel trade's positioning of the different tourism zones of Tunisia, in relation to consumer perceptions and loyalty.
As well as being the first Tunisian to complete a Doctorate in the field of tourism, Samiha, In the Doctorate viva, achieved the maximum marks possible for her work.
Samiha is now contemplating her future career options; having been offered two lecturing posts as well as a marketing position, in Barcelona, with the new Union of the Mediterranean.
