The Performing Arts Help Hearts
A group of 7 University College Birmingham students recently helped save lives by hosting a talent show in support of the British Heart Foundation's Start a Heart appeal. All 7 are studying BA (Hons) Events Management and the organisation of live events is an important element of this course.
The British Heart Foundation appeal aims to raise £60,000 to buy 50 portable defibrillators which can be placed throughout Birmingham in public places to aid recovery in instances of cardiac arrest, improving chances of survival by up to 30%.
Hosted by the Crescent Theatre in Sheepcote Street the night featured a wide variety of top acts from across the West Midlands and culminated in a charity auction.
The evening raised over £2,300 and the students were able to present it to a representative of the British Heart Foundation and see a defibrillator for themselves at the same time.
