A French Adventure

The end of term saw a group of childcare students begin a three week placement working in bilingual nurseries in the French town of Lyon.

Lecturer Yvonne Cassells who spent a week in France with them reported back on how they were getting on:

"Absolutely fantastic! - Our French colleagues are very impressed with their eagerness to learn, their use of French, and professional child care skills. They have all coped with using the metro and the tram, and living away from home including shopping, cooking, cleaning and washing for themselves – some for the first time.

All of the students attended the parents fete at Ecole Petit Monde; 2 accompanied Bebe Bilingues to the farm and the other students have helped out at Parents events and camping evenings at their respective placements.

The students have and continue to indulge in the culture - excursions to Old Lyon; river cruise up the Soane; French nightlife; food markets; Fouviere and the outdoor swimming pool next to the Rhone River has gone down a treat in the very hot weather."

The students have also featured in a local magazine (in French).
