Students Bank Bundles for Barnardos

Students hand over money raised to BarnardosUCB students put on their PJs and attended a charity fundraiser in aid of Barnardos. The event which raised in excess of £1,300 for the charity, was held by six BA (Hons) Events Management students and was a huge success with more than 200 students turning up to take part.

The night included all the activities that would be associated with a sleepover, a Midnight Feast Bar serving chocolates, sweets and ice cream, a Beauty Bar providing nail treatments and a Wii Gaming Station which proved particularly popular with the guys. Bar One at The Maltings was transformed into a dream land with comfy beds and beanbags to sit on, clouded back drops and lanterns to light the room. Students could also make the most of the magical setting by having professional photographs taken in a double bed, with prints available for them to take home the same night.

Although there was an array of activities taking place, some famous party games were played including pass the parcel and a raffle and auction finished the night off, before students were reminded where the money would go and who would benefit from their generosity.

Barnardo's Student Programme Officer, Emma Garlick commented on the event saying "On behalf of Barnardo's Student Programme I would like to thank the team from University College Birmingham. I am delighted with the hard work they have put in to organising this very successful event, raising vital funds and awareness for the 100,000 disadvantaged children that Barnardo's work with across the UK. Their concept was original and obviously attractive to the student market, and the team was successful in engaging with their target audience during a particularly challenging time of year – exam time. As a result they made a huge amount of money that will support Barnardo's projects across the country".

Kirsty Simpson, The Event Coordinator added "Thanks must go out to all of our sponsors including The Taste of Birmingham, The Summer Good Food Show, Aston Villa, Worcester Warriors, Metchu, Apres, Twycross Zoo and Takethatphoto.com who all provided us with some amazing raffle prizes and auction items that helped us raise such a fantastic amount".
