Stars of the future shine

Daniel and Suzanna prepare to shine"Excited and nervous" is how the two University College Birmingham students short listed for this year’s Young Guns competition, are currently feeling. The annual competition recognises hospitality students who have excelled in their work placement and are seen to be rising stars of the future.

The Two final year FdA Hospitality and Business Management students, Suzanna Hunt and Daniel Wills, have recently returned from two very different 48 week industrial placements.

A course module on contract catering opened up Daniel's eyes to the business and he was amazed to learn about the diversity of roles and sectors that contract catering covers. He therefore chose to undertake his placement with contract caterers Sodexo, based primarily in Peterborough. Daniel was also given the opportunity to attend events such as Royal Ascot and to get involved with catering on London Bateaux.

Suzanna's placement took her to Cape Cod in Massachusetts, USA, where the Captains House Inn provided the setting of her year in industry. The Captains House is a prestigious 16 bedroom establishment offering Bed and Breakfast, day visitors lunches and afternoon teas, weddings and other functions.

The final judging lunch takes place at Mosimann's Restaurant in London on Thursday 12th March and the finalists are preparing to impress! The two winners will then attend the Catering & Hospitality Forum on board cruise ship Arcadia in June. We’ll bring you the results as we hear them.
